This page is to provide a general description of funds used and allocated for assistance in the 2021 disaster affecting Cruso, NC. A Go Fund Me was created by Spencer for immediate on the ground and cash assistance to bypass organizations and normal channels and meet needs directly.
Logging in and editing this site takes a little time, please allow me days or a week to get information updated. As of Friday morning less than 24 hours after starting our fundraiser we hit $2,500. My goal is to generate this money from sources not covered by other local programs and people, but to reach outside and connect via my substantial social media presence. I will be updating funds use on this page.
You're generosity gives me the ability to meet needs real-time in the moment BOOM done. If you have item donations there are groups here doing that in style. The hardest part is finding out what folks really need and getting individuals their own stuff. Since I live here I can just do it thanks to you and move quickly without large crowds and piles and piles of stuff.
Current Expenditures listed below:
Young family with 18 month old $100, standing by for more request
Home cleanup, mud, salvage items, trash for family with total loss
Single mother with 2 year old child, moving help and $200 cash
One dump truck of rock and gravel for road repair for neighbor without resources to do so
Delivery of water and food directly to native American elder
2 new chains and fuel for saws, 5 gallon buckets, tarp
Outreach into the migrant / non-English speaking community for specific needs
High volume cash donation to local widow whose drive way was inaccessible and destroyed. This was an emotional and wonderful highlight, thank you letter available upon request.
I'm in no hurry to exhaust funds immediately. I believe that after the initial swell of support locally substantial needs will continue into early Fall and may not be fulfilled by larger organizations - we are standing by and will be there in effective ways as we can.
Special thanks to Hole Donuts in Asheville and the Linton family for their generous support of our efforts! This also goes to everyone who jumped on board. As often happens a number of Go Fund me programs popped up with questionable outcomes and intentions. Your trust is deeply appreciated!
